DNF: The Walled City, by Ryan Graudin

The Walled CityThe Walled City by Ryan Graudin

No spoilers and colorful language abound! I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

DNF at 55%

I'm not going to rate this, I'm not far enough into the story to justify a star rating.

Here are my thoughts thus far:

Lacks substance, otherwise known as a plot. It's fancy, I'll give you that much with its strong and rich Asian culture, intrigue and suspense. But, big fucking but here folks, what the hell was the point? Nothing written mattered, a pretty backdrop constructed to disguise the lack of content. Boohiss.

Also, woah to overly obvious plot facilitators and "coincidences". What are the bloody chances an iota of this interpersonal relationships would be so intertwined? Could that be any more trite. Me thinks not.

This book is like a picturesque Christmas tree set up, stunning packages with ribbons and bows, holding nothing more than your squirming disappointment and stale air.

  1. This is sitting on my Netgalley shelf, but I have had too many other books I need to get read. Now you have me curious, so I might take a quick look at it. Why would the word "quick" auto-correct to "television"? I swear the programmers sat there laughing their asses off about making this app feature, and the joke is on us.

    1. Hahaha quick to television? Now that is interesting! I really couldn't connect to this, it just was vapid and boring. I'm curious to know your thoughts though! Let me know if you read it.
