No spoilers and colorful language abound! I promise, no spoilers at all, I barely even talk about the plot because spoilers suck.
I have been waiting for this, and it is everything I didn't know I wanted.
It's moments like this that I question why the hell I even try to review books. I clearly have nothing intelligent to add to the conversation, I'm all over here like HEY GUYS HEY YEAH THIS IS AWESOME, GUYS! GUYS? NO REALLY, IT IS. I LOVE IT.

The Five Books That Made Me Fall In Love With Reading: #2
THIS.BOOK.CHANGED.MY.LIFE.
Alright so that's a little dramatic, I suppose but it has a grain of truth. I am in my last year of my twenties, and I've come to realize that we are only gifted with a certain amount of vivid childhood memories. I'm speaking specifically of textural memory that swirls into your vision, and just a moment floods your senses. I was in third grade and was a student of Mrs. Wright. She was a short and plump Mexican woman who sported silver hair worn in a soft french twist, happy brown eyes and a killer wardrobe of tweed skirt suits. I absolutely loved her. Every day after recess she would read to us, over the course of the year we went through several, but Lizard Music is far and away my favorite.

The Five Books That Made Me Fall In Love With Reading: #1
I got asked an interesting question recently about how I fell into the world of book blogging, reading obsessively, and generally being a bookworm that got me thinking. My answer was fairly generic and one most of you can relate to, that I've always been this way. As long as I could remember I felt an affinity for books, providing something that I otherwise could not achieve. I was always a child in my own mind, lost in the clouds of my imagination and otherwise ignoring most other things. The conversation drifted to the books that impacted me the most, and this one was on the short list. I was 10 years old when first read this book, I remember clutching my money in my hand, wandering up and down the rows and rows of books trying to decide which adventure I wanted to go on, and this is what I chose.

I'm having hard time rating this, here is why. I sort of hated it. More than sort of actually. Although, the reasons are more "Veruca Salt's- I Don't Care How, I Want it Now" rather than "wow this story is total shit and written terribly". It wasn't bad just not what I wanted but, if I'm being truthful a bit of what I expected.

3 stars for predictability or 5 stars for enthusiasm while reading? 3 stars for Cinderella-esque plot or 5 stars for that world building, son?

Unwept: Book One of The Nightbirds by Tracy and Laura Hickman
Unwept: Book One of The Nightbirds by Tracy Hickman
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
☆ ☆ ☆
Actual 3.5
No spoilers and colorful language abound! I received this ARC from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
Imagine coming into consciousness on a train, you remember nothing of your self at all but your own name. Your travel companion refuses to tell you anything, only referring to your uncle that you are traveling to see. When you arrive it turns out he isn't even your uncle, just someone who likes to be called "uncle" by the entire town read: creepy as fuck. None of the smiling faces at the station feel safe or remind you of home, no one will give you answers and keeps coddling you because of how unwell you are. The thing is, you don't feel unwell, you feel confused and angry because who the hell are you and why won't anyone tell you?
Bonus: Interesting as hell premise.

So, ehh... I laughed substantially less with this one than the first. I think this comes down to finding queefs less funny than I originally imagined. I know, I know, queefs are inherently hilarious, right? Except, not really.

I'm not even sure where I am right now, finished this book somewhere around midnight and decided to go right into Magic Rises, you know just for the first chapter so I could sleep. Yeah, we've all told ourselves that one before. Well oops, look at that it was 6:30 am and I had totally forgotten to sleep. Was that my children I hear, oh it's going to be a long day. Must. Hold. It. Together.

Magic Bleeds by Ilona Andrews
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This starts off with you holding your breath, waiting for what was promised at the end of Magic Strikes. Then things take a turn for the slow, admittedly I had a hard time with the snail pace of things. True to fashion I.A. lays the groundwork for an incredible battle, simultaneously building up to what will be the crescendo and it starts off with a bang. Pro tip: Dig deep for the willpower to stay focused, its worth absorbing and not skimming ahead for hints of the Beast Lord. There is this wonderful moment where Andrea proverbially slaps the shit out of Kate, finally waking her up to taking some action. I nearly fell down in joy when she called Jim.
It's happening.
